Tips when applying for Design Awards

A shout out to designers! I was fortunate enough to be invited as a judge for both the Taiwan Industrial Design Award and Liteon Industrial Design Award for 2009. Both of these were sponsored by the Taiwan Design Center.

Here are a few tips:

  • Make sure that your artwork is stuck on thick card or presentation boards. This is easier for the judges to handle and they will stand out.
  • Make sure that you give your project a name and make sure you describe your project clearly in both Chinese and English. A short description is preferable.
  • Pictures paint a 1000 words. Use good 3D renderings. Make them large. Provide small sketches to support your ideas.

Please understand that judges might be asked to look through hundreds, sometimes thousands of projects in a single day. Make a good first impression and your project presentation can be worth up to 20% of the total credits.

Good luck for 2010!
